John Alison (Guitar) – John is a life-long surfer and local Satellite Beach native. The band gets together each week at his home studio to practice, jam, and record. John’s simple riffs are percussive and catchy providing a fun & funky foundation for their danceable, melodic, grooves. He is influenced by old-school funk bands and the multi-flavored New Orleans style music. John Frusciante from his favorite band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as music from Galactic, Lettuce, Dumpstafunk, Big Shirley, and The Meters add to his inspiration, technique, and song creation.
Michael McCutchan (Bass) – Mike’s dedication to funk keeps the band headed in the right direction by never straying far from those highly percussive, thumb-slapping, booty-shaking basslines. Mike lays down the low frequencies that get our listeners up and dancing. His aggressive yet tasteful bass playing echoes his high-performance surfing style on his 9’0” longboard. In his hometown of Cocoa Beach, Mike has become a well-known local figure easily recognized on his skateboard, surfboard, kiteboard, or just hanging out with friends and family on the beach. His Flee-like bass attack is a prominent and distinguishing piece of the band’s catchy funk-inspired melodic grooves. Mike’s early musical influences include the RHCP, Big Boys, and Bad Mutha Goose along with the Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, DRI, and other punk & hardcore bands. Current influences are Lettuce, Pidgin Band, and the Budos Band.
Bill Haney (Keys) – Bill is an analytical thinker with a mind for structure. Bill keeps the band grounded and the songs in an organized musical arrangement. Using vintage organ and keyboard sounds, Bill evokes emotion and excitement as he adds his blazing keyboard runs and searing note-holds to each song. Bill’s vintage style is essential to maintaining the band’s foothold in authentic old-school funk while his lead work transcends the era. Bill’s ability to do this is an absolute reflection of his life experiences as a former VW bus driving surfer/skater turned practical family man and entrepreneur. His favorite bands and musical influences at the moment are The New Mastersounds, Lettuce, and Soulive.
Patrick Livezey (Drums) – Patrick’s musical tastes are widely diverse and therefore add a musical medley of multi-style infusion into his drumming technique giving this funk band a unique rockin’ flavor. Patrick on the drums and Carlos on percussion provide a union of rhythmic funk and world-beat. Originally from Philadelphia Pa, Patrick has been in the area since 1985 where he attended Florida Institute of Technology and works as a Mechanical Engineer for the Defense Industry. Some of Patrick’s favorite bands are Rage against the Machine, Tool, Red Rot Chili Peppers, Lettuce, New Master Sounds, Cadillac Jones, Dumpstafunk, and Here come the Mummies. He is heavily influenced by a drummer with a heavy grooves and funky beats. Danny Carey, Chad Smith, and Adam Deitch are a few but the list is endless. Patrick has played in many different bands over the years and brings decades of Stage, Studio, and Touring experience to the musical juggernaut that is Flo Motion.
Carlos Prado (Percussion) – Carlos’ Latin heritage and techniques are essential to the band’s overall sound and musical impact. His playing style creates a percussive sensation that commands attention and transposes the band’s musical significance across several genres including Funk, Latin, and World Beat. He can often be heard saying, “Music is a creation of our heart and the food to my soul.” Carlos’ day job is in the aerospace industry and his musical influences include Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Poncho Sanchez, Carlos Santana, Giovanni Hidalgo, and the Maestros.
Ben Hanna (Baritone Sax) – Ben (also known by the band as Aquaman) is a true master of the baritone saxophone and holds down the low end of the horn section. His commanding, earth-shakingly low, baritone riffs and runs add greatly to the creation of the band's uniqueness and distinctive flavor. Ben is a lover of all music and has an extremely wide range of genres from which he draws his inspiration. Ben's remarkable talents complement the band and his striking resemblance of Aquaman is a sight to see when watching FloMotion in action.
Jamie Gatchell (Trumpet and Flugelhorn) – Jamie joined the band as the only female in a sweaty, loud, tall, testosterone-rich, all-male band but she probably stands out the most with her screaming trumpet runs and jazzy solos. Her influences are vast but mainly steeped in contemporary and classic jazz which is evident in many of her amazing solos and note choices. She is known and respected by some of the best trumpet players in the world who shop and visit her at her high-end boutique trumpet store in Melbourne.
Johnny McGuire (Trombone) – Johnny was the original trombonist in the band when it was conceived and named Funkle Fester. Over the years, members changed but his trombone riffs, runs, hits, and solos remained a permanent part of every song on their first album. Years later and under the name FloMotion, the band was lucky enough to have one of Brevard's most talented and well-known trombonists back in their line-up. Johnny adds so much additional New Orleans spice-n-soul to every song, new and old, and is always lots of fun to watch during live shows.
Jonathan Van Beuran (Trombone) – Jonathan came to the band with his roots deep in ska, punk, and jazz. His influence on the horn section has done a lot to shape the unique fusion of styles into one fantastic, cohesive, and entertaining ensemble. Jon's contributions on trombone play an important part in every song. Unfortunately, Jon had to step away (hopefully just temporarily) from music and the band recently but we're hoping he returns soon. There have been some rumors that Jon may return soon and with another entertaining trick up his sleeve...a sousaphone. We can't wait to see what happens!
